January 2017 Bullet Journal Setup

Hey there :)

As 2017 is just a couple of days away, I thought I’d share with you guys my January 2017 bullet journal setup. Initially, this was supposed to be a video, but a couple of shots couldn’t be uploaded hence, here we are :(

This is officially my first time bullet journaling, so I can’t say that the system I use is foolproof. Besides, I will be pairing my bullet journal with a planner, therefore it doesn’t exactly fit all the requirements of a bullet journal either. Nonetheless, I hope you’ll be able to find some inspiration as you continue reading!

1. Keys

I used basic crosses to mark completed tasks and a slash to mark half-complete tasks. I know many people prefer to shade the boxes when they’ve completed a task, but knowing me, I doubt I’ll have the discipline or time to shade my tasks one by one. That’s pretty much why I’d rather stick to good old crosses. I used a circle to mark migrated tasks, and an exclamation mark to mark urgent tasks.

2. January Calendar

On my second page, I basically have my January-at-a-glance calendar. Some people prefer to have a six-months-at-a-glance or a year-at-a-glance but I thought a January calendar would do for me since I'll be using a planner together with this bullet journal.

3. Main Page

On this page, I’ve got pretty much everything that sets the tone for my January. On the top left, I’ve listed down my goals. I decided to maintain only five goals for January but the number of goals over the next few months will probably change depending on how achievable those goals are. Below it, I’ve listed down a couple of birthdays. Next, I wrote down a bible verse. With all my plans for 2017, I thought Proverbs 3:6 would be a suitable one to keep me inspired throughout January. On the right, I listed down a couple of interesting stuff to look out for. Below that, I made a little box for my playlist. I plan on listing down the songs that I’ve been listening to there (but honestly, I came up with this space simply because I didn’t know what else to do with that space hahaha.)

4. Activity Tracker

Once again, I know many people tend to use a horizontal orientation for their activity tracker, but I figured having it vertically would make more sense for me. Mainly because I only have three activities to track, and also because my notebook comes with horizontal lines.

5. Sleep Tracker

Over the past year, I’ve developed a couple of complications due to the lack of sleep (the struggle to get good grades is real.) So this year, I decided to pay more attention to my sleeping patterns. I figured that plotting out a sleeping chart would be a pretty cool way of tracking my sleep (provided I have the discipline to plot it every day, that is.) On the vertical axis, I listed down the number of hours of sleep I had, while on the horizontal axis, I listed down the dates.

6. Finance Tracker

I don’t exactly have a whole lot of money to track haha, but I thought that tracking my money would be a good habit to start even if it involves very little money. So all I did was draw out two columns for debit and credit, and voila.

7. Ideas

Over the past I’ve written my ideas all over the place, and retrieving them is always a struggle! So I thought having all my ideas in one page will really help me keep everything somewhat organized. I split my page into four sections for my videos, letterings, photos and blog posts.

8. Gratitude/Grateful

Having a list of things that you’re grateful for is always a good way of keeping the good vibes going (and yes, I totally misspelt “gratitude” in my bullet journal.) I shared my grateful page with a section saying “something special”. This section is basically where I’ll write down something special that I want to do for someone.

9. Prayer Concerns

This is kinda self-explanatory haha. Basically, all my prayer concerns will be listed down here, so that I can easily refer to it during my quiet time.

10. To Do

Again, this pretty much explains itself. All the things that need to get done will be listed down here. I’ll use my keys to mark the progress of each task so that I don’t forget to do anything!

11. Weekly Spread + Index

Yep, I don't have any of these in my bullet journal (weird huh?) Since, I'll be pairing this bullet journal with a planner, there isn't really a need for a weekly/monthly spread. As for the index, I've never ever fully utilized the index column in my previous notebooks, so I decided to leave it out this time as well.

As for the theme of my bullet journal, I kinda don’t have a specific theme that I want to stick to. I basically brush-letter everything and have almost everything in a box. I also threw in some leaves here and there to soften the look of my bullet journal.

I guess that’s pretty much it! I hope you’ve found this somewhat useful. I definitely have a lot to learn about bullet journaling, and I'm already having so much fun with this system.

Perhaps, next time, we'll meet in a video instead! Thanks for reading.

Till next time :)
